The g[R]ay Boi (world premiere) is a collaborative interdisciplinary work combining the conventions of choreography, multimedia installation, and research to analyze the complexities of the fears of being male, black and gay. In a series of fervent group work and illicit solos, The work will investigate the darkness represented by a combination of confusion, shame, embarrassment and guilt through historical and contemporary victimizations of black men. Topics of investigation include: media portrayal, homophobia and racism, masculinity and identity, internal and cross-sectional relationships and the HIV/AIDS epidemic amongst black gay men. Much of the research has been based on a collection of personal essays collected by black gay men, Fighting Words; public observation of the local gay scene and black gay scene; and, collection of data, research studies and collaboration with local HIV/AIDS organizations.

Okwae A. Miller & Artists create research-based interdisciplinary work rooted in the personal identity, history and the universal human experience. Representing a diverse background in the visual-performing arts and sciences, Miller integrates collaboration, task completion and research to compose work that invites individuals on an introspective journey to gain an understanding of self through varied social contexts. Highly graphic and expressively pure, artistry is informative through textural movement, sound and multi-media technology.
